It's Wollomby Show time again, and Shirl and the other girls in the paddock want to join in the fun. Trouble is, Gertrude the goat always wins the prizes for cooking and flower arranging-and everything else. Each year we would rear a bully calf to be entered in the local show.
I say we, but it was supposed to be my younger brothers' calf. The feeding, grooming and lead training seemed to fall on me. My brother got to lead it around the show ring though.
One year he was unwell, so I got to lead the calf. No ribbon, but the fact that the calf behaved was good enough for me. I guess it was all the practice I had.

Great post Marybelle. That would have been an eventful show experience for you being in charge of the calf even though you no doubt helped out every year.

We are addicted periennal Show goers. The experiences are multiple and never ending however one year we happend to be in the animal pavillion at the EKKA - our first time there - and witnessed the birth of one of the lambs. It was an awesome sight to behold and unforgettable experience (which was ironically completely free of charge!)Apart from that, I won first prize as a young girl in the Show once for entering a sponge cake (my grandma's recipe) I shall never forget that either.
